If you’ve been to our Marda Loop location recently you might have noticed some new art on the wall opposite the espresso machine. It’s the story of one little coffee cherry and his ripening on a coffee farm aptly called, “The Ripening”.
Maddi was inspired by conversations with Phil and Sebastian about the coffee bean’s journey from farm to cup and the importance of a fully ripe cherry. In many ways, it’s a coming-of-age story of a bean. Maddi worked closely with Phil and Sebastian to pare down the big picture of a coffee cherry on a farm to what the bean actually “went through” and how the story was narrated. The final result is a quirky narrative that illustrates, quite literally, a story we’re very passionate about.
Maddi graduated from ACAD last spring from the Visual Communications department in Illustration. She’s inspired by graphic novels, Ray Fenwick, Leah Hayes, and her work is often based around a story. You can see more of her work on her website at maddimatthews.com and “The Ripening” is on display at Phil & Sebastian Marda Loop.
