Goodbye Market

Goodbye Market

We’ve been told that when one door closes another door opens, and this gives us some consolation as we say goodbye to our market location and close a great chapter in our young history.

We opened at the market on March of 2007.  Frankly, at that point in time, we were very unsure of whether our views of coffee, our position on syrups (none) and our by the cup brewing would be well received.

I remember our first weekend, Phil and I trying to make coffee, wash dishes, take orders and talk to people, all while trying to keep wait times below 45 minutes (sorry for those who endured the first few weekends).  Quickly, friends and coffee aficionados came to our aid and helped us out.

The response from the public, many of whom quickly became loyal customers, was extraordinary.  We never expected the response and popularity our little home in the market quickly garnered.  We were certain of a few things: we loved coffee, we wanted customers to experience coffee in a new way, we wanted to make the best coffee possible and give our customers an opportunity to experience the “wow” moment that we once experienced.  This “wow” moment made us view coffee in an entirely different light: it was no longer just coffee, but a complex and rich drink that matched or exceeded the geographical and varietal complexity of wine.  Over the past four years, we have shared many “wow” moments with you and that alone makes it all worthwhile.

Your support has been amazing!

We want to thank you for coming every weekend, asking questions, making us think, holding us accountable and having fun and enjoying coffee with us.  The last four years have been tremendously rewarding and have given us inspiration to get better each and every day.  Thank you.

Please come and visit us at Marda Loop, Chinook Centre or surprise us and stop in at our roasterie in Inglewood. Cheers to our final day with the Calgary Farmers’ Market!
