When it comes to breakfast, nothing endures the test of time more than classic comforts: bacon, eggs, toast, and coffee. This is especially true during the turbulent economy in Calgary in recent years. Despite the recent challenges brought on by the economic downturn, owners of Diner Deluxe, Ryan Turbide and Vince Wong, have stayed committed to serving quality-focused comfort food at their two locations. Both are passionate about creating a warm environment for customers and staff, and are heavily involved in the day-to-day operations: “this is my life, the restaurant business is all I’ve ever known,” says Turbide.
When talking about thriving during the economic downturn, Turbide explains, “we’re staying true to ourselves and what Diner Deluxe is and has always been — a consistent, reliable place to get fresh, well-prepared comfort food.” Diner Deluxe uses local ingredients and vendors whenever possible, and Turbide heads to the Crossroads Farmers Market on Blackfoot Trail SE each week to pick up seasonal produce. Great food is paired with friendly service, creating a neighbourhood atmosphere. Small details, such as arcade games and vintage trinkets, add a warm and nostalgic touch.
Turbide and Wong both have a long history working in Calgary’s restaurant industry, and together, they purchased Diner Deluxe Edmonton Trail in 2010. In 2014, they expanded their reach out West in to Aspen Landing with a new, beautiful two-level location that is bright and modern.
Since 2010, we’ve worked closely with the Diner Deluxe family to provide seasonal, fresh-roasted coffee to pair with their delicious menu of brunch offerings. We’re proud to have the Phil & Sebastian name on their menu.
