Dopplegänger is our darkest espresso roast and our easiest to use espresso. Just like Alter Ego, don't expect sweaty looking black beans. Instead, these beans have been roasted to a beautiful chocolate brown colour. Our goal was achieve a rich, smooth and bold espresso that can work in milk or on its own, in a fancy manual espresso machine or a super-automatic.
The coffee in Dopplegänger right now comes from a veterinarian turned coffee farmer in Costa Rica. His name is Fernando Vindas and you can read more about his farm and journey below.

FROM VET TO THREAT - FERNANDO’S COFFEE IS MORE THAN A FEEL GOOD STORY
Fernando “Fer” Vindas is a veterinarian turned coffee farmer. When his father passed away in 2006, Fer and his siblings had to decide what to do with their farms. After much deliberation, Fer decided to take over and start milling their own coffee - they called their micromill “Cerro Alto”, which means High Hill.
I first tried Fer’s coffee in 2020 and thought it’s one of the most rounded and comforting cups of coffee I have ever had. It’s full of chocolate notes, nougat, candied pistachios, and a hint of apricot.
Over the past few years, I’ve been able to spend time at the farm and mill. It’s clear that his science background has a direct impact on his approach to coffee. He is meticulous, measured and precise. The result is a remarkable coffee and its profile is one that I want to drink every day, again and again.
I really enjoyed spending time with Fer. He is so friendly, and so, so humble. For sure meeting him made me enjoy his coffee even more. If you like coffee, you just need to try it. It will take you back and remind you of everything that’s great about this amazing beverage.
