The French press is a widely-used brewing technique that is easy to do and produces delicious coffee. You can use any style of French press, but we tend to favour ones made of stainless steel – not only are they more durable, they are better at retaining heat.
We recommend at least 600g / 20oz of filtered water.
Pour 100-200g of boiling water into your French press. Leave it in your French press for 30-60 seconds, and discard the water.
Weigh out 25g of whole bean coffee and grind slightly coarser than sea salt.
Place French Press on your scale and add ground coffee. Zero out your scale.
Pour boiling water into your French press to reach 400g of water
Remove from scale and place the lid onto your French press.
Set your timer for 4 minutes.
At 4 minutes, apply even pressure to the plunger until it reaches the bottom
Once you've finished plunging, be sure to serve your coffee immediately or decant it into a separate vessel.
