French Press Brewing Guide

The French press is a widely-used brewing technique that is easy to do and produces delicious coffee. You can use any style of French press, but we tend to favour ones made of stainless steel – not only are they more durable, they are better at retaining heat.

  • Coffee Input: 25g
  • Water Input: 400g
  • Brew Ratio: 16:1
  • Total Brew Time: 4:00
  1. Step 1. Boil Water

    We recommend at least 600g / 20oz of filtered water.

  2. Step 2. Preheat your French Press

    Pour 100-200g of boiling water into your French press. Leave it in your French press for 30-60 seconds, and discard the water.

  3. Step 3. Grind Coffee

    Weigh out 25g of whole bean coffee and grind slightly coarser than sea salt.

  4. Step 4. Zero out your press & grounds

    Place French Press on your scale and add ground coffee. Zero out your scale.

  5. Step 5. Pour water

    Pour boiling water into your French press to reach 400g of water

  6. Step 6. Place lid

    Remove from scale and place the lid onto your French press.

  7. Step 7. Wait

    Set your timer for 4 minutes.

  8. Step 8. Plunge

    At 4 minutes, apply even pressure to the plunger until it reaches the bottom

  9. Step 9. Serve

    Once you've finished plunging, be sure to serve your coffee immediately or decant it into a separate vessel.
